Today was another rough day on the economy. It is estimated that about 50,000 jobs were essentially lost today. The Home Depot, Sprint, GM, and Caterpillar will all cut jobs over the next few months. Also, Granger Community Church in Granger, IN, one of America’s most innovative churches eliminated 8 jobs and announced a cut-back on hours for 15 more.
All this cutting hurts. What do you do when you don’t know what to do? These times are a perfect example of how bad decisions by some affect us all. When company executives in one area make poor decisions they move through the company, to the economy and to the world at large. It isn’t Granger’s fault that some banking exec made poor decisions, but when the decisions start affecting the workforce, they affect Granger’s people, which affects Granger’s ability to afford some ministries and staff to support them.
It is a great reminder to us that what we do matters. It affects more than just us when we make poor choices in this life. We are fooling ourselves when we think it doesn’t.
