It seems that every tool we use for carpentry is now equipped with a laser. We can now hang pictures with laser accuracy (Where was this innovation years ago? My walls look like swiss cheese). Everything now comes equipped with a laser. Lasers are easy ways to get straight to the point. They zero in on the objective, the goal. God wants that type of precision from us.
In Joshua 1:7b and following God tells Joshua, “Be careful to obey all the instructions that Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning to the left or the right. Then you will be successful in everything you do.”
As leaders, we get so distracted by everything. I get distracted by criticism. I get distracted by urgency. I get distracted by technology sometimes. God is leading all of us somewhere. He has an objective for each of us. We have people we are supposed to be leading and to do anything less than shine that laser light out into the distance and follow it straight ahead, behind God’s leading, is a distraction.
God encourages Joshua again with this, “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord, your God, is with you wherever you go.” (vs. 9) Now that is something we can take to heart.
